Joanne Rendell on the "Damned Mob of Scribbling Chicks"

Writers are about as stratified as they come, with this weird pecking order of snobbism (and reverse snobbism) that defies all logic. Tough as making it as a published author is, I have limited patience with those who make themselves feel better by denigrating others.

But it's nothing new, and the prejudice against women writers, writing for women readers, has for centuries been especially harsh. Over at the Huffington Post today, author Joanne Rendell speaks brilliantly on this phenomena.

By all means, check it out.

And the photo's for all you haters out there. ;)

Hmmm...if I can write a book that does seven million on its first print run, sell 2 million in the first day of its release, and be one of the richest woman in the world before I'm fifty, then dang it, I WILL write chick trash that panders to the lowest common demoninator.

As you know, Colleen, I'm doing a 50day/50blog tour for VEXING THE VISCOUNT's release Feb 24th. Tomorrow, I'll visit my only non-romance site--MindsAliveOnTheShelves. So far the blog owner has been a good sport, though she admits she doesn't read romance.

But I wonder if I'll feel like Rodney Dangerfield once her readers get hold of me. Romance writers typically "don't get no respect!"

We shall see . . .

http://aliveontheshelves.blogspot.com/ The other link was bad.

No techno-mind alive here!
I'm with you, Suzan, but I don't believe that authors who do pander, rather than writing from their hearts, ever really connect to an audience.

But I know you meant that tongue in cheek. :)

Emily, I so admire your stamina with your blog tour. That's incredible. I've read a number of your posts, and they've all been terrific, too!

Can you pander after fifty? Or does your pander, like other parts, start to wear out? Just asking...
Or does one simply have to pay an expensive specialist, Miss Dorothy, to take a gander at one'd pander?

Now there's a question for the ages. LOL.

Hi, I'm the panderologist. I'm here with your pander expander. It's a doozie.

Well, considering one of my favorite comic book writers (and they get the same level of respect as romace authors) just won the Newbery Medal. . .

Thanks for the shout out, Colleen! I love the picture too. I should have included that on Huffpo!
